Do you find yourself suffering from power outages often? Or perhaps the internet connection in your area is not reliable and connectivity remains down for extended periods of time? Some people often like to use their laptops during commutes, or you might not have a Wi-Fi connection at home forcing you to use a data hotspot. Data networks can be very limited and your PC can eat up a lot of your data package very quickly thanks to all the background apps and services running. playbazar
In most of these cases, you will find yourself needing to kill time while you’re offline. Some of us play the good old hidden Dinosaur game on Google Chrome while we wait for connectivity. But that’s a very basic game and can bore you out pretty easily. PC games tend to be very heavy on the graphics and content, and usually require a lot of data to be downloaded.
What you need is a good offline game that requires no internet connectivity. So, before that next internet outage hits or before you go out on your next commute, be sure to download some good offline games for your PC to keep you occupied during the ‘dark times’. Keep in mind that this does not include expensive and graphic-intensive titles (such as GTA, Call of Duty) for reasons of simplicity. Unless you’re a hardcore gamer, you wouldn’t want to play such games on the commute, for instance.
Here is a list of some of the best simplistic PC games you can play offline.
1. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition
Age of Empires was one of the first real time strategy (RTS) games ever released (besides C&C Red Alert), and it has a special place in many of our early gaming memories. Indeed, it is one of the most beloved games released by Microsoft.
Almost 20 years since the original title, Microsoft has released a revamped edition, called the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. This game retains most of the original gameplay while making significant improvements in terms of better graphics and visuals. It now supports 4K! And since it has been released in 2018, it is designed to work with Windows 10 without any compatibility issues. Furthermore, you can now have up to 8 players in Multiplayer mode.
The campaign has also been revamped, with a totally new narration. Be sure to check this great title out for old times’ sake.
2. Civilization VI
Civilization VI is the latest (and subsequently the best) installment in the Civilization franchise, a turn-based strategy game series that has amassed millions of fans. You build vast your empire from the ground-up, and battle with others to take control and further enlarge your kingdom. There are lots of aspects to the game, such as researching technology, different tech trees based on player’s nation and geographical location, and much more.
3. Plague Inc
Plague Inc is a very popular and addictive mobile game that is now also available on PC. The concept is very unique and simple; you have to kill the entire world’s population with a plague before scientists find a cure for it.
You start off with a basis of your plague; virus, bacteria or fungus. As the plague infects more people, you get DNA points. You spend these DNA points to add new modes of transmission to your plague (have birds carry it around the world!), add new symptoms and resistance abilities. The aim is to infect the entire world first before you evolve the plague to kill.
Sounds diabolical and easy? Not quite. You have to carefully plan the plague! If your plague is causing serious symptoms, scientists will prioritize working on its cure! If your plague is killing too quickly, it will die out before infecting the entire world! It is a brilliant game that will keep you hooked for hours straight.
4. Portal 2
If you’re more into puzzle solving games, then Portal 2 is the gaming community’s favorite puzzle game. It is a first-person puzzle-platform that is available for Windows, OS X and Linux.
Much of the gameplay from the original Portal title has been retained, with many new additions. It includes tractor beams, laser redirection, light bridges and so on. The player has to solve puzzles by using these gimmicks and finding pathways to progress through the levels. The game supports both single-player campaign and multiplayer modes, and it can be a lot of fun when played with friends. But even when you’re offline, you will end up spending a lot of hours trying to figure out how to advance to the next levels. It is a highly addictive game and is one of the top-rated games on the Steam library.
5. Plants vs Zombies
The Zombies want to eat your brains! But plants are your best friends. This engaging title from EA is pretty old and has multiple installments in its name. But it still remains relevant as the game of choice for when your internet connectivity is down and you want to play a quick game while you’re offline.
You start-off with an empty lawn that the zombies are going to try to cross in order to get to your house and eat your brains. Your job is to prevent that by happening by putting plants all over your lawns. Different plants serve different purposes. Sunflowers give you ‘sun’ points that you use to buy more plants. Pea-shooters shoot peas at zombies and kill them. Cherry bombs explode when a zombie steps on them, killing a large group of zombies at once. Potatoes offer a defensive wall that slow down zombies as they try to eat them. It is a really fun and addictive game that you will end up spending hours on.
The next time you find yourself without an internet connection, you should be able to kill some time with these great games. If instead you don’t want to use your laptop and want to play games on your phone instead, be sure to check out these great mobile titles you can play offline.
