Practically anyone with the Instagram app can see the image you set as default on your profile. If you’d prefer not to get attention on social media, there are a few things you can do to hide your Instagram account and prevent your contacts and others from finding you. This means that you’re one of those persons who want utmost privacy on social media because you use it for specific purposes, such as staying in touch with friends that live far away or following businesses and niches that are active on Instagram, such as insights from your favorite sports team, gambling bonuses on one of the Serbian online casinos of your choice, etc.
For example, by removing certain information, even if someone has your phone number, they won’t be able to find you on Instagram. Follow this guide as we detail additional options to help you stay hidden from prying eyes.
Remove Your Facebook Account From Instagram
To make sharing easier, you can link your Instagram account to your Facebook account. We do not encourage implementing what we just mentioned if you want to hide your Instagram account. You’ll appear on the “Discover People” page of the people who added you to Facebook once you’ve linked the two accounts. Remove your Facebook link from Instagram if you already have two accounts connected.
- On your Android device, open the Instagram app.
- In the lower right corner, tap your circular profile icon.
- Choose “Settings” after you navigate to the menu in your profile’s upper right corner.
- A section labeled “Account Center” can be found at the bottom. Simply click on it.
- “Accounts and Profiles” will appear.
- Select a Facebook profile.
- To delete your account, tap “Remove from Account Center”.
- If you want to “Disable related experiences for your account”, Instagram will prompt you to confirm. To continue, use the blue “Continue” button.
When your Facebook friends sync their contacts, you won’t display on the “Discover People” tab if you unlink your Facebook account.
Make Your Account Private
Setting up your account to private is one of the easiest ways to make your profile less visible. Even if someone eventually finds you, they won’t be able to see your posts unless you give them explicit permission to do so.
You can activate the privacy mode by going to “Settings -> Privacy” and turning on the “Private Account” option at the top.
Remove Your Phone Number From Instagram
Keep in mind that removing your phone number from Instagram will disable the two-factor authentication feature. For this to function, you’ll also need a verified email address, as Instagram requires at least one verified method of communication. By navigating to “Settings -> Security -> Two-Factor Authentication” and turning it off, you can disable two-factor authentication.
Tap the profile icon and select “Edit Profile” to remove your phone number. Your phone number will appear second down if you swipe down to “Personal Data Settings”. After setting “Sync Contacts”, those who have saved your phone number on their phones will be unable to locate you once it has been erased.
Turn Off Contact Sync
Speaking of which, you probably used that option yourself when you first set up your Instagram account. However, if you want to stay hidden, you should give up this functionality.
Go to “Settings -> Account -> Sync Contacts” and from there disable it.
Prevent Friends From Finding You in Similar Accounts
The person you’re trying to hide from can easily find you if they follow an account similar to yours. To disable this feature, go to Instagram on your desktop browser. Strangely, you won’t be able to turn off this option on your phone or tablet. After accessing Instagram on the web, click on your profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen and then on the “Edit Profile” button. You’ll find a box at the bottom that you may uncheck to prevent your account from showing up in comparable account results. Remember to press the button saying “Submit” in the blue color.
It’s also possible to add or remove your phone number from here, in case you have not followed the steps described above.
Turn Off Your Online Availability Status
If you want even more privacy, turning off your online status is a step in the right direction.
To hide your online status from others, go to “Settings” again and swipe down to “Privacy”. Touch “Activity Status” and turn off the “Show Activity Status” button. If the key is blue, it means it’s on, and if it’s gray, it’s off.
Block Specific User Accounts
Do you want to be absolutely sure that someone won’t be able to find you no matter what? Block his/her account if you know his/her username.
Simply go to his/her profile and tap the three-point menu in the corner of the screen. A pop-up menu will appear from the bottom of the screen. From there, select “Block”.
